Birmingham-based Capital Growth Buchalter (CGB), a leading commercial developer with current projects in 15 states, is expanding into Charlotte and Atlanta, two of the fastest-growing real estate markets in the U.S. The expansion is a natural result of CGB’s continued growth, as the 70-year-old firm has developed more than 1,500 projects and $2.5 billion of real estate in 28 states. Other local CGB offices are in Florida, Tennessee, and Louisiana. The two new offices will work closely with each other, although each has a distinct focus.
“Over the last few years, CGB has been lucky to align and partner with some of the best industry leaders throughout the U.S., while attracting local talent and local projects as well. The sunbelt states continue to be a hot spot for both residential and employment growth. The expansion of the CGB brand into two new markets, Charlotte and Atlanta, comes with excitement and responsibility to continue to deliver excellent products and services to the real estate marketplace,” Managing Principal Robert Buchalter said.
As a company committed to excellence, Capital Growth Buchalter prioritizes local offices with hands-on management. “Excellence includes local leadership on local projects,” Buchalter said. “We have team members living near our projects in Tennessee, New York, New Jersey, Georgia, North Carolina, Alabama, Louisiana, Wyoming, Florida, and Ohio, in addition to our multiple offices. In some cases, we temporarily locate a team near new pipelines of projects for as long as six months to ensure a smooth upstart.”
Capital Growth Buchalter’s newest division will be based in Charlotte, North Carolina, under the leadership of Rob Hicks, who is a veteran of more than 30 years in the industry. “Capital Growth Buchalter is no stranger to the Carolinas,” Hicks said. “We’re a preferred developer in the Carolinas and Virginia for various national tenants. And I’m eager about the multiple opportunities we’re actively pursuing throughout the region.” Opening in Q3 2022, CGB Charlotte is focused on executing preferred development for retail and restaurant clients as well as evaluating and pursuing opportunistic land and building acquisitions for future development or repositioning.
“We are excited to announce the expansion to Charlotte to accompany all of the work we are doing in the mid-Atlantic,” Jason Garcille, Managing Partner, Construction and Development, said. “Rob Hicks has an extensive development track record in the Carolinas and Virginia and has partnered with CGB since 2018. The CGB Carolinas team has a track record of more than 50 projects together in the mid-Atlantic, with 50+ more in the pipeline,” he added. Both the new Charlotte office and the Georgia office offer development and brokerage capabilities.
The Georgia division, led by experienced brokers/developers Greg Craft and Eric Buchalter, specializes in preferred development for auto, retail, and restaurant clients, as well as evaluating and pursuing opportunistic land, building, and assemblage acquisitions for future development or repositioning. In addition, CGB Georgia focuses on diversifying CGB’s acquisition and development capabilities into self-storage, multifamily, and industrial business sectors.
“After having been introduced to Capital Growth Buchalter almost a decade ago, I am honored to have the opportunity to become part of the CGB family as the Managing Partner of the Atlanta office,” said Craft. “After just 18 months, we have had the opportunity to work on 25+ projects in five states with some great industry operators, real estate brokers and developers. The CGB Georgia division anticipates hiring additional team members to support the local and regional efforts of the development, brokerage, and acquisition teams.”
